Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
