Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
