The former Brazilian president detained after being deemed a risk of fleeing

Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in prison, but he was staying under home detention pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments were revealed.

This involved trying to remove his tracking device and a invitation to a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the custody, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his flight.

Context of Sentencing

He was determined responsible of leading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the 2022 election to his political opponent, President Lula.
