Donald Trump’s corporate entity increased its hiring of foreign workers on short-term work permits this period, while his government was placing obstacles for other companies attempting to do the same, an analysis published recently claimed.
According to information from the US Department of Labor, the Trump Organization sought to bring in at least nearly 200 foreign workers in 2025 for short-term roles at the former president’s Florida property, golf facilities and his winery in Virginia.
The number of requests for temporary work visas for workers including servers, office assistants, cleaning staff, kitchen staff and agricultural laborers was the record filed by the company, and up from over 120 in 2021, when Trump’s first term concluded.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that the former president had attempted to hire more than 100 overseas workers for seasonal jobs at his Florida resort, according to labor statistics.
The revelation coincides with a crackdown on legal immigration by his government that has involved the introduction of a $100,000 fee on skilled worker visas; increased review of the actions of the 55 million people who already hold American work permits; and tighter regulations for foreign students and journalists.
Overall, the Trump Organization sought to hire over 560 foreign laborers over the five years Trump has been in the White House, from 2017 to 2021 and during the upcoming year.
Notably, Trump was questioned by some in the GOP this period for remarks justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “specific talents” to occupy particular roles.
“You can’t just say a nation is coming in, going to spend $10bn to build a plant, and going to recruit individuals off an jobless roster who have been unemployed in five years, and they’re going to start producing their missiles. It doesn’t work that well,” he stated to a interviewer after she suggested that overseas employees lower the wages of US workers.
The White House refused a request for response, and the business did not provide an answer to an request for information.
